Syracuse, N.Y. -- Juniors Emma Herrmann and Cora Keohane combined for three goals on Tuesday night as the Central Square girls soccer team upset No. 1 state-ranked Jamesville-DeWitt, 3-2, in overtime on their home turf.
It was the first regular-season loss for J-D in two years. The last time the Red Rams (8-1) lost during the season was a 1-0 setback at Fulton on Sept. 22, 2017.
Central Square, which avenged a 5-2 loss at J-D on Sept. 7, improves to 7-1. Both teams play in the SCAC Empire, where the Red Hawks have won five straight since the J-D loss.
The Red Rams, state runners-up in Class A last season, have won 10 consecutive sectional championships and were seen as the overwhelming favorites again this year.
Herrmann, an All-Central New York selection last season, scored once and added an assist for the Red Hawks, and Keohane scored two goals. Senior Allyson Isereau got two assists. Freshman goalie Samantha Haley was credited with 19 saves on the night.
Central Square plays at Oswego on Thursday, while J-D visits Fulton.
