
No. 7 BYU Women’s soccer finished it’s Kansas trip with two wins, beating Kansas State in Manhattan on Saturday 5-0.
The Cougars were dominant from the start, and opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Cameron Tucker received the ball in the center of the Wildcat defensive third and pushed the ball onto her right foot, ahooting the ball from outside the penalty area and sneaking it past K-State goalkeeper Emma Malsy.
The pressure was relentless from the Cougars, but they were unable to score again in the half.
The second half was again dominated by the Cougars, but with goals to show for it this time. In the 48th minute, Jamie Shepherd won the ball in the center of the field and played a wall pass to Mikayla Colohan at the top of the area. Shepherd then slipped the ball to Tucker making a run on the far post. Tucker shot the ball across the face of goal into the far side netting, giving the Cougars the 2-0 lead.
In the 59th minute, Tucker would play a wide pass to Mikayla Colohan on the right side of the box. Colohan squared the pass across goal, with the deflected pass landing at Tucker’s feet. Tucker placed it in the top of the net to give the Cougs the 3-0 lead and get Tucker her first career hat-trick.
In the 70th minute, the Cougars won a corner. Ella Balstaedt played the ball into the box, and Colohan connected on the end of it with her head to give the Cougars the 4-0 lead.
BYU would find its fifth and final goal in the 85th minute, with freshman Kendell Petersen winning a penalty. Petersen stepped up and finished the penalty herself, slotting it past Malsy.
The Cougars remain undefeated on the season, improving to 8-0 on the season. The Cougars have given up just one goal this season, the lone goal coming from a penalty at Mississippi State.
BYU will play at Long Beach State on Thursday evening before returning to Provo to host UC Irvine next Saturday.
