UCSC women’s soccer stays hot | Local Roundup - Santa Cruz Sentinel

The UC Santa Cruz women’s soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to eight games with its 4-0 win over visiting Holy Names on Friday.

Junior midfielder Izel Gutierrez scored twice, giving her a team-leading total of four goals. Freshman midfielder Julia Hernandez and freshman forward Chella Grattet each had a goal and assist.

The Slugs outshot the winless Hawks 21-4.

Freshman goalie Alyssa Diaz-Tucker recorded a pair of saves over 90 minutes to record the shutout, her team’s sixth overall and fourth in as many games.

The Slugs (6-1-2) host Mills (0-7)  on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Surfing

So Sri Lanka Pro: Santa Cruz’s Sam Coffey tied for 13th place Friday at the WSL’s So Sri Lanka Pro, a Men’s QS 3,000 event in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka.

Coffey, ranked No. 240 on the QS, took fourth and was eliminated in Heat 4 of Round 5 after posting a two-wave score of 7.47. He finished behind No. 312 Mitch Parkinson (15.40) of Australia, No. 167 Leo Paul Etienne (13.27) of France and No. 139 Rio Waida (12.00) of Indonesia.

Coffey (12.20) finished second to No. 248 Thomas Cervi (13.67) of Australia in Heat 5 of Round 4. The Santa Cruzan won Heat 9 of Round 3 with a score of 13.66.

Women’s water polo

At Cabrillo 13, Sacramento City 10: Sophomore Grace Frias and freshman Kelly Taylor scored four goals each and the Seahawks prevailed in the opening game of the Bockman Memorial Classic on Friday.

Sophomore goalie Zoe Brouillet helped the Seahawks (4-2) survive a late scoring barrage by Sacramento.

Cuesta 16, at Cabrillo 3: The Seahawks (4-3) dropped their second game at the Bockman Memorial Classic on Friday.

Men’s soccer

At Clovis 5, Cabrillo 2: Freshman forwards Thomas Bugnet and Alejandro Zambrano scored for the Seahawks in their road loss to the state’s No. 11 ranked team Friday.

Cabrillo goalie Carlos Salazar made two saves over 25 minutes and Edrick Angel made five saves over 65 minutes.

The Seahawks (3-3-1) host Las Positas (3-5-1) to open Coast Conference South Division play in Aptos on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
