Free Press sports writer Orion Sang breaks down the Michigan football recruits for the class of 2020 who signed letters of intent on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period (Note: This story will be updated as players sign):
Commitments
C Reece Atteberry
School: Aurora (Colo.) Eaglecrest.
Vitals: 6-5, 280 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 434 overall, No. 8 center.
The buzz: A versatile prospect who could realistically play four of five positions up front. Played some tackle in high school but will likely play on the interior of the line at Michigan. Shows impressive mobility.
Comp: Graham Glasgow.
RB Blake Corum
School: Baltimore St. Frances Academy.
Vitals: 5-8, 193 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 119 overall, No. 12 running back.
The buzz: Corum rose up the rankings during a successful senior season. He was the focal point of St. Francis' productive offense. Runs with a low center of gravity and has 4.4-second 40-yard-dash breakaway speed that allows him to get to the edge. Can run between the tackles. Has good vision and makes some high-level cuts. Should compete for snaps right away.
Comp: Phillip Lindsay.

Eamonn Dennis
School: Shrewsbury (Mass.) St John's
Vitals: 5-10, 173 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 511, No. 24 athlete.
The buzz: There are too many parallels between Dennis and Mike Sainristil. Like Sainristil, Dennis was an explosive playmaker in high school who looked like he could've played either offense or defense in college. And like Sainristil, Dennis seems destined to play offense in offensive coordinator Josh Gattis' scheme — whereas in previous cycles, he might've projected to cornerback.
Comp: Mike Sainristil.
RB Gaige Garcia
School: Catawissa (Pa.) Southern Columbia.
Vitals: 5-10, 205 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 141 running back.
The buzz: Runs with a low center of gravity, much as you'd expect from a star wrestler playing running back. He was extremely productive for Southern Columbia, a powerhouse in Pennsylvania high school football. Previously signed his national letter of intent with Michigan's wrestling program.
Comp: Tru Wilson.
DE Jaylen Harrell
School: Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep.
Vitals: 6-4, 235 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: 4 stars; No. 302 overall, No. 12 weak-side defensive end.
The buzz: Harrell looks like it could hold 20-25 more pounds. And he has solid athleticism; played some middle linebacker and outside linebacker for his high school team, and showed the ability to drop into coverage. Mostly rushed the passer standing up in his highlight film and featured a variety of pass-rushing moves. Looks like a future weak-side defensive end.
Comp: Kwity Paye.
WR A.J. Henning
School: Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln-Way East.
Vitals: 5-foot-10, 183 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 92 overall, No. 17 receiver.
The buzz: A dynamic playmaker, Henning fits exactly what offensive coordinator Josh Gattis wants to do. This was a big recruiting win for U-M, which beat out schools like Notre Dame and Georgia for Henning. As a senior, lined up everywhere for Lincoln-Way East and was fully healthy after dealing with injuries throughout his high school career. Can be a Swiss Army knife for Michigan's offense and talented enough to play as a true freshman.
Comp: Giles Jackson.
TE Matthew Hibner
School: Burke (Va.) Lake Braddock.
Vitals: 6-4, 230 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 414 overall, No. 13 tight end.
The buzz: Senior highlights mostly included clips of Hibner flexed outside, which means there could be some adjustment as he learns to play out of a three-point stance in college. An athletic pass-catcher who fits the mold of previous tight ends that Michigan has signed. Will need to add weight to hold up as a blocker.
Comp: Sean McKeon.
LB Nikhai Hill-Green
School: Baltimore St. Frances Academy.
Vitals: 6-1, 230 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 382 overall, No. 27 outside linebacker.
The buzz: Hill-Green has a big frame with long arms; he might even be taller than listed. Played middle linebacker for St. Frances and seems to have the instincts to stick there. He's a good tackler and really attacks ball-carriers.
Comp: Ben Gedeon.
DE Kris Jenkins Jr.
School: Olney (Md.) Our Lady Good Counsel.
Vitals: 6-4, 239 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 513, No. 22 strong-side defensive end.
The buzz: Jenkins, the son of Kris Jenkins (the former All-Pro nose guard), doesn't have his dad's size. But he has a frame that suggests he'll add a decent amount of weight and move inside for Michigan's defense.
Comp: Carlo Kemp.
DE Aaron Lewis
School: Williamstown (N.J.).
Vitals: 6-5, 235 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 458 overall, No. 20 strong-side defensive end.
The buzz: Huge frame that looks like it could hold another 50 pounds. Lewis fits the mold of former defensive end Chris Wormley, who played strong-side defensive end and moved inside at times. Lewis could be that same type of player. He has a pretty high ceiling; will likely require time (especially in the weight room) to hit it.
Comp: Chris Wormley.
OG Micah Mazzccua
School: Baltimore St. Frances Academy.
Vitals: 6-5, 335 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 623 overall, No. 38 guard.
The buzz: A big, road-grading offensive lineman, Mazzccua could play guard or even right tackle. He's a physical presence up front and dominated high school teams with his size and power. Like most other offensive linemen prospects, he'll have to add technique. But you can't teach size.
Comp: Juwann Bushell-Beatty.
DE Braiden McGregor
School: Port Huron Northern.
Vitals: 6-5½, 248 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 108 overal, No. 4 strong-side defensive end.
The buzz: McGregor missed much of his senior season with a knee injury, but he's still a highly regarded prospect who looks like a prototypical strong-side defensive end. As a junior, he flashed high-level athleticism that could portend future success as a pass-rusher.
Comp: Aidan Hutchinson.
William Mohan
School: Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall.
Vitals: 6-1, 195 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 456, No. 23 athlete.
The buzz: A tweener to some, Mohan is a prototypical VIPER prospect for Don Brown's defense. He can set the edge and attack downhill. Looks almost as if he's physically college-ready, and could have a productive career at U-M and has the ability to make an impact on special teams from Day 1.
Comp: Khaleke Hudson.
S Jordan Morant
School: Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic.
Vitals: 5-11, 212 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 163 overall, No. 14 safety.
The buzz: His senior season was greatly impacted by injury. Perhaps the most versatile defensive prospect in the class, he's a well-built prospect who has good acceleration. A heavy hitter who plays with violence and has a nose for the ball. VIPER could be a strong fit, too. And depending on how much he bulks up, maybe even inside linebacker. Not the dynamic offensive and special teams player that Jabrill Peppers was, but looks the part on defense.
Comp: Jabrill Peppers.
S RJ Moten
School: Delran (N.J.).
Vitals: 6-0, 200 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 205 overall, No. 18 safety.
The buzz: Another well-built prospect with positional versatility, Moten could play either safety spot or even VIPER. He tested well at a Nike combine and posted an elite SPARQ score; athleticism shows on tape (and is reportedly a highly touted baseball prospect). Played a lot of running back but his future is on defense.
Comp: Brad Hawkins.
LB Kalel Mullings
School: Milton (Mass.) Academy.
Vitals: 6-1, 220 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 158 overall, No. 13 outside linebacker.
The buzz: Mullings was bigger, faster and stronger than basically everyone he played in Massachusetts. Senior film showed a do-it-all player who caught passes, returned punts, covered receivers and played middle linebacker. Could probably project to either inside linebacker position but also maybe VIPER. He also showed an ability to cover slot receivers. A versatile, athletic prospect with intriguing potential.
Comp: Cam McGrone.
S Makari Paige
School: West Bloomfield.
Vitals: 6-3, 182.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 242 overall, No. 25 safety.
The buzz: A long, rangy prospect who projects to the backend of the defense. Looks like a conventional free safety with a solid frame for his position, will have to fill it out before he plays.
Comp: Jarrod Wilson.
TE Nick Patterson
School: San Antonio (Texas) Christian.
Vitals: 6-3, 225.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 870 overall, No. 39 tight end.
The buzz: Patterson lined up all over the field in high school. He looks like a future H-back, although that might be pigeon-holing a player with some versatility. He has good hands and was an asset in the passing game for his high school, catching a lot of passes across the middle of the field.
Comp: Khalid Hill.
OT Jeffrey Persi
School: San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) J Serra Catholic.
Vitals: 6-7, 265 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 320 overall, No. 26 offensive tackle.
The buzz: He looks like a prototypical offensive tackle prospect. Not ready to play immediately, but won't have to — should be afforded the time to develop technique and add to his frame. His athleticism is apparent; a high-ceiling type prospect who will likely have to wait a couple seasons but could become a star once he hits the field.
Comp: Ryan Hayes.
LB Osman Savage
School: Baltimore St. Frances Academy.
Vitals: 6-2, 225 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 308 overall, No. 21 outside linebacker.
The buzz: Another heavier, thicker inside linebacker who already has pretty good size for the position. Savage's tackling ability is one thing that stands out. He seems to have solid all-around athleticism, too, with decent speed, acceleration and agility.
Comp: Mike McCray.
CB Andre Seldon
School: Belleville.
Vitals: 5-8, 154 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 233 overall, No. 16 cornerback.
The buzz: Seldon played cornerback and safety for Belleville but will likely play cornerback in college, and his height suggests he might even play exclusively nickel back. Has the short-area burst and quickness to cover slot receivers. Needs to add weight.
Comp: Terry Richardson.
LB Cornell Wheeler
School: West Bloomfield.
Vitals: 6-1, 220 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Three stars; No. 457 overall, No. 18 inside linebacker.
The buzz: Wheeler looks like he'll play inside linebacker at Michigan. Has the requisite instincts to play middle linebacker. He has good tackling ability, he will have to add some weight.
Comp: Desmond Morgan.
WR Roman Wilson
School: Honolulu St. Louis..
Vitals: 6-0, 175 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 359 overall, No. 61 receiver.
The buzz: Speed kills, and Wilson has plenty of it. Put up great testing numbers at a Nike combine: 4.37-second 40-yard dash; 39-inch vertical and 3.96-second shuttle run. He can also play outside or in the slot. Productive in high school despite playing alongside another Power 5 prospect in Matt Sykes (committed to UCLA). He could be the most productive member of this class.
Comp: Chris Olave.
OG Zak Zinter
School: Cambridge (Mass.) Buckingham Browne & Nichols.
Vitals: 6-6, 300 pounds.
247Sports Composite ranking: Four stars; No. 273 overall, No. 11 guard.
The buzz: Big, road-grading offensive lineman who was bigger and stronger than his high school competition. He looks like a future guard in college with a big frame. Looks to have the right temperament to play offensive line.
Comp: Kyle Kalis.
