Fast Start Paces Cate Soccer to 4-2 Win at Laguna Blanca - Noozhawk

Cate came out flying and scored two goals in the first 21 minutes en route to a 4-2 boys soccer win at Laguna Blanca in a Tri-Valley League game on Thursday.

After two narrow misses in the opening minute of play, Buba Fofanah finished a far-post pass from Daniel Boateng in the third minute. Cate went up 2-0 in the 21st minute, when Boateng took a long pass from Will Anderson and tagged a volley from about 30 yards that dipped over a helpless Laguna goalkeeper and into the far upper corner.

Fofanah finished a through ball from will Deardorff for a 3-0 lead midway through the second half.

Lucas Walhberg scored on a penalty kick to put Laguna Blanca on the board in the 70th minute.

But Cate struck back a minute later when Fofanah flicked a pass from Ricky Valente across the top of the box to Boateng for the left-footed finish.

Walhberg scored again for the Owls.

"We did a great job of attacking Laguna with near relentless pressure in the attacking third and racing out to an early lead," Cate coach Peter Mack said. "Unfortunately, we stagnated for long stretches, accentuated by holding the ball too long and not always playing with the kind of urgency that generally helps us control the game. Still, we did enough well to earn a good win over a good team. I'm proud of how far we've come and excited about how far I think we can go."

Cate is 6-0-1 overall and sits in first place at the halfway point of league play at 3-0-1 in league. Laguna is 1-1-2 in league.
