Prep boys soccer: Armijo earns 3-0 MEL win over Fairfield - Fairfield Daily Republic

FAIRFIELD — The Armijo High boys soccer team led 1-0 after the first half and added two more in the second for a 3-0 victory over Fairfield at the latter’s Shaefer Stadium, Thursday.

The Royals got their first goal on a header by Rudy Ruiz but had to wait until near the end of the game to conclude the scoring.

Misael Cisneros Gomez netted Armijo’s second goal in the last two minutes with Diego Torres quickly adding the third.

“This was definitely an intense game and a well earned win,” Royals coach Megan Flores said. “(The) boys played strong, fast and with heart. . . I can’t express how incredibly proud I am of this group of boys and what they can do when they come to play with mind, body and heart.”

Fairfield won the JV game 1-0 with the Falcons scoring early and hanging on for the victory.

According to Flores, much of the game was played in Armijo’s attacking third, “but (they) just couldn’t sink a shot into the goal. They especially took it hard with Fairfield scoring so quickly in the first half off a minor mistake.

“Once JV finds their rhythm and that net, I know they will show everyone what they can really accomplish.”

Fairfield travels to play Wood while Armijo hosts Vanden on Tuesday.

Wood 3, Vacaville 0: At Wildcat Stadium, Max Galeano opened the scoring about 20 minutes into the second half with a goal to the far post after a run down the left side.

About five minutes later, Jacob Howard was taken down in the box for penalty with Kobe Rolling taking the ensuing PK. Rolling’s shot was blocked, but he quickly put back the save to make it 2-0. Hayden Hawkins later rounded out the scoring with a goal off an assist from Rolling.

Wood won the JV game 1-0 on a goal by Roanin Podkin on a free kick from outside the box in the second half.

The Wildcats conclude the first round of MEL play by hosting Fairfield, while the Bulldogs are at Rodriguez.
