Prep girls soccer: 3 Mustangs score twice in 9-0 win - Fairfield Daily Republic

FAIRFIELD — The Rodriguez High girls soccer team had three players net two goals each gained some breathing room in the Monticello Empire League standings with a 9-0 shutout of Fairfield at Coach Ed Hopkins Memorial Stadium, Wednesday.

Lily Garcia, Angelita Chavez and Talyssa Tucker each scored twice for the Mustangs (9-2-4, 6-0-1), who led 3-0 at the half, with Nia Rouse, Taylor Eshom and Liz Anderson each getting one goal.

Even with the three-goal at the half, Mustangs coach Josh Levine felt his squad wasn’t playing at the level it would need for key MEL games and playoff contests in the coming weeks.

“We talked about playing up, playing more to our style, our level of intensity, taking it more seriously – and we did. We scored six goals in the second half.”

Rodriguez is at Armijo, while Fairfield entertains Vacaville.

Vacaville 1, Vanden 0: At Vanden’s George A. Gammon Field, the Bulldogs (6-6-1, 5-2-0) got an early goal and the Vikings (6-9-0, 5-2-0) couldn’t get one to answer.

“They just got a quick breakaway and got up 1-0,” Vanden coach Rich Weida said. “We pretty much contained them the rest of the way. It was a battle to the end, one of those game we just needed a little luck and didn’t have it. . . I couldn’t be prouder of my girls. They battled for 80 minutes.”

Vanden is at Wood, while Vacaville heads to Fairfield.

Wood 7, Armijo 1: At Fairfield, Lily Fenn connected on a goal for Armijo early in the second half but it wasn’t enough to match the offensive onslaught by Wood, Wednesday.

Adriana Mendoza picked up the assist on the Fenn goal but the Royals spent most of the night fending off a formidable attack by the Wildcats.

In JV action, Armijo lost, 2-0.

Armijo is at home, Friday, against Rodriguez, while Wood hosts Vanden.
