Wood-Ridge's Gardella Honored by NJ State Soccer Coaches - TAPinto.net

EDISON, NJ - Wood-Ridge High School junior Emily Gardella was recognized by the New Jersey Girls Soccer Coaches Association at its Annual Awards Banquet on Sunday, January 19 in Edison, NJ.

This is the first time that a student-athlete from Wood-Ridge has been recognized by the NJ Girls Soccer Coaches Association, according to head coach Jerry Cala.  Selections are made by coaches who are members of the association. Established in 1989, "the mission of the NJGSCA is to promote and strengthen development of girls' high school soccer in New Jersey. The organization serves to recognize deserving female soccer players throughout the state..." according to the group's website.

The Lady Blue Devils midfielder, Received North 1 - Sectional Recognition. In 2019, Emily finished with 12 goals and 2 assists.   She was first team NJIC All-Meadowlands as a midfielder in 2019, after being a 2018 First Team All-Meadowlands selection at defender.

"Emily had a very solid junior year finishing with 12 goals and two assists," said Cala. "Over the course of last season, Emily was asked to play a lot of different roles for us.  She is very comfortable wherever we put her on the field.  I was very happy to see Emily get recognized by the NJSCA.  This is a well-deserved honor for such a fine young lady."

"We are very excited to have Emily back for one more year.  She will be expected to play a key role as she is one of 8 returning starters for next season."
