Bigger than football: Raheem Mostert’s TD celebration honors his agents dad - Niners Nation

A few players made a name for themselves on Monday Night Football. One of them being San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert. Talking to Rob Lowder a couple of weeks ago in practice about him, and Rob mentioned on Mostert could start for a handful of teams in the NFL. I didn’t have a great feel for Mostert’s abilities, but if his performance last night is how he usually looks, then Rob is 100% correct.

Mostert finished with six carries for 58 yards and a 30-yard touchdown. We know he’s fast because he’s playing running back for Kyle Shanahan. He runs hard. He finishes every run. On a couple of his runs, Mostert displayed the type of vision that players in this league that get 20 carries a game don’t have. He played really well against Denver.

His touchdown celebration was more meaningful than I could ever put into words. Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, said that the running back told him before the game that if he scored a touchdown, Mostert would raise a ‘T’ in honor of Tessler’s dad, who recently passed.

This is what it’s all about. These are the moments that make sports unique and unlike anything else. In front of thousands of people, with even more watching on a primetime game, Mostert could have easily made the moment about himself. I mean, he did all of the work to get there. Instead, Mostert used his platform to honor somebody else. An amazing moment for Brett that he will never forget. Our condolences go out to Brett. What a heartfelt gesture by Raheem.
