Men's Soccer is Final Four Bound - UIndy News

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  The UIndy men's soccer team's magical run continued Sunday afternoon, as the Greyhounds (16-5-1) bested 17th-ranked Maryville, 1-0, to capture the NCAA DII Super Region Three crown as well as its first-ever Final Four appearance.

UIndy was the last of the four teams to secure its ticket to Pittsburgh next week, joining Lynn, Charleston (W.V.) and Cal State LA as national semifinalists. The Hounds will face No. 3 Cal State LA in on Thursday, Dec. 12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryville controlled the early part of the first half, not allowing the Hounds to get very many looks to score. The Saints pushed the ball on the UIndy side of the field but the Greyhound defense did not break as they held Maryville scoreless. With just under 10 minutes to go in the opening half, UIndy found the back of the net to take the 1-nil lead. All-GLVC First Team selection Ben Rohder sent a shot off a Maryville defender as it deflected in past the Saints keeper as the Hounds owned a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The Greyhounds kept pushing in the second half, threatening the new Saints goalkeeper after making a switch at halftime. On top of staying aggressive on the offensive end, the Hounds held their own on the defensive side as Dimitrios Karousos only had to make one save on the day after facing eight shots from Maryville. When the clock hit zero and the buzzer sounded, the celebration begun as the UIndy bench stormed the field and the Hounds punched their ticket to Pittsburgh for the final four.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The UIndy defense was stout in the win, the Saints tied a season low with just one shot on goal.
- Maryville actually tallied more shots than the Greyhounds did in Sunday's win, UIndy fired off seven shots placing five of them on target.
- Karousos was back in goal after missing time over the last couple months. The junior keeper posted his first clean sheet since October 20th against Drury.

MORE NOTES
Sunday's win avenged a 1-0 regular-season loss to the Saints back on Oct. 27 … The Hounds' 16 wins on the season are good for a new program record.
