French broadcaster RMC reported the preliminary investigation related to complaints filed by three people.
The club president “is confident in the outcome of the investigation in which he fully cooperates,” Angers said.
Chabane, a businessman in the food industry, became club president in 2011. Angers returned to the top division in French soccer four years later.
The team from northwest France is currently in 13th place in the 20-team league.
