The high school soccer postseason will get under way Monday with the start of district tournaments.
District champions and runners-up will advance to next week’s regional tournaments. Regional winners advance to the state tournaments starting Oct. 21. The state finals are set for Nov. 2 in Lexington.
On the girls side, Bullitt East (Sixth), Sacred Heart (Seventh) and Simon Kenton (Eighth) are defending champions from the Louisville-area regions.
Sacred Heart, the defending state champion, is ranked No. 1 in the state according to MaherRankings.com. The Valkyries (16-1-2) will open postseason play at 5 p.m. Monday, hosting Seneca in a 27th District semifinal.
No. 3 Christian Academy (13-0-2) is one of two undefeated teams in the state — joining Ashland Blazer (15-0-2) — and will face Kentucky Country Day at 5:30 p.m. Monday in a 28th District semifinal at Eastern.
In boys action, Butler (Sixth), St. Xavier (Seventh) and South Oldham (Eighth) are defending champions from the Louisville-area regions.
Defending state champion St. X (17-2-1) is ranked No. 2 in the state and will host Brown at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a 26th District semifinal.
St. X is one of four teams from the Seventh Region ranked among the top five statewide, joining No. 3 Collegiate (18-2-1), No. 4 Trinity (12-3-2) and No. 5 Ballard (14-5-2).
Henry Clay (16-1-3) of the 11th Region is ranked No. 1.
