Crusaders claim section title

Marayah Tomlinson netted a hat-trick when it matted most and No. 2 St. Bernard’s girls soccer team defeated No. 1 Technology-Rohnert Park 3-2 in the North Coast Section Division-III championship match, Saturday afternoon in Rohnert Park.

St. Bernard’s was familiar with its opponent Saturday as the Crusaders fell to Technology 1-0 in last season’s title match.

Tomlinson, the Crusaders’ leading goal-scorer, made sure her club’s season wouldn’t end with another loss at the hands of the Titans.

St. Bernard’s advanced to Saturday’s title game with a 2-0 win over Upper Lake in the semifinal-round on Nov. 8.

Tigers fall short

The No. 3 Arcata High girls soccer team came up one game short of a section title, falling 1-0 at home to No. 5 Middletown in the NCS D-I championship match, Saturday afternoon at Arcata High.

Middletown struck in the 47th minute, scoring what would end up as the game-winning goal.

Arcata goal-keeper Skaidra Pulley saved 7-of-8 shots-on-goal in the loss.

“I am extremely proud of all they accomplished together,” Arcata head coach Patrick Stranahan said. “We had our opportunities…the girls played well.”
