The recent Tournament of Champions brought high school soccer teams from all over Georgia to Glynn County. Carter Nichols, an 18-year-old high school senior from Oconee County High School, was among the contenders. Carter is the son of Christopher Nichols, and the grandson of W. Eugene Nichols. The three men represent three generations of one family who have a special connection with soccer in Glynn County.
In October, 2015, W. Eugene Nichols was honored at the soccer complex on Jekyll by the Golden Isles United Soccer Association for spearheading the founding of the Golden Isles Soccer Association in 1981. Christopher, 48, played his childhood and teenage years in the Glynn County Soccer League and the first teams of the Golden Isles Soccer Association.
Recently, they both returned to the soccer complex on Jekyll Island to proudly cheer Carter playing there as No. 20 for his Oconee County High School soccer team, and proudly representing the soccer tradition of three generations of the Nichols family.
